A new initative has been taken from Mozilla to bring desktop exprience on your web applications. Prism is based on a concept called Site Specific Browsers (SSB). An SSB is an application with an embedded browser designed to work exclusively with a single web application. It doesn’t have the menus, toolbars and accoutrements of a normal web browser.
Prism is still under development. Some of the objectives achived by prism are:
- Seperate Process : Each web application runs in a seperate process,Unlikely web browsers It doesn't affects other web application running side by side if something went wrong.
- Minimal UI : A web application can be configured to with minimal UI.
- Desktop Integation : Basic desktop integration has been achieved by providing shortcuts to start menu/desktop. The application can directly be launched from shortcut; without using web browser.
